Andrea and Matteo Bocelli took the stage at the Oscars for a powerful father-son duet, honoring those lost in the past year.

The Italian tenor, Andrea Bocelli, gave a surprise performance at the Academy Awards, where he and his son, Matteo, delivered a touching rendition of his iconic song ‘Time to Say Goodbye.’ This new version was arranged by renowned composer Hans Zimmer and accompanied by a string quartet and dancers. The moving tribute played against a backdrop honoring actors, musicians, and industry legends who passed away over the last year, including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Robbie Robertson, and Matthew Perry.

As Bocelli marks 30 years of a successful career, the duet also debuted a fresh take on ‘Con te partirò,’ the song that made him a global star in 1995. Bocelli shared, “This song defines my life; it’s how the world sees me. Reinventing it with Hans Zimmer and performing it alongside my son is an exciting journey.”

He also teased that the new arrangement is part of a larger project tied to his 30th-anniversary celebrations, which include a major performance at BST Hyde Park in London this summer.

Matteo echoed his father’s sentiments, calling ‘Time to Say Goodbye’ his family’s “national anthem” and expressing his gratitude for performing it at the Oscars. The father-son duo had previously collaborated on the 2018 single ‘Fall On Me’ and a holiday album in 2022 with Virginia Bocelli, the youngest member of the family.
